What will you be doing five years from now?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 14, 2007:

I like this question. I asked it of my husband and he said, "lying here scratching your back" which is what he's doing right now and that made me very very happy. It seems quite plausible.

in 5 years I will still live right where I already live, only the yard will be lush with growing things, edible and beautiful. There will be a bridge from our little mobile home park, which is sandwiched between a highway and a river, over to the valley long bike path which is just on the other side of the river. this is significant because currently, if someone who lives here wants to go for a walk or bike ride they must brave at least a mile and a half of very busy highway to get to the bike path. when I moved here almost 3 years ago I would look across the river and know the bike path was right there, but not be able to reach it. I tried walking with my dog the mile and a half to the nearest store to get my husband a soda while he worked on a house project, but it was terrifying walking along the edge of the highway with cars whizzing by so close and so fast. I immediately petitioned the county open space and trails dept to build a connection. that led to many, many meetings and gathering of signatures in the neighborhood and trying to convince people on both sides of the river and in the county commissioners' offices that is was a good idea. I got a crash course in how goverment works and how things finally do or don't get done here in western colorado. and ultimately, I got a bridge for bikes and pedestrians. it won't be built until late this year or early next year, but it will happen. so in 5 years, I'll be able to walk to the next town from my house, or actually any town in the 40 miles of the Roaring Fork Valley, since the bike path runs the entire length of the valley, mostly along the river. I'll even be able to ride my bike 20 miles to work without running the gauntlet of the highway. I am very much looking forward to commmuting by bike.

also, my house will be off the grid by then. we'll have solar or wind power for everything and much better insulation and it'll be just more ecologically sound. I hope it will be a shining example of how you can remodel a cheap mobile home built in the 80's into a comfortable, functional, beautiful, green HOME.

and I want to start a community garden in some of the run down areas of the mobile home park -- the neighbor says I have to call it a subdivision now because everyone owns their own property and there are stick built houses, not just mobile homes. i think we are in danger of gentrification. haha.

I don't know what else, but I hope I am doing some traveling, taking some classes, photographing lots, volunteering, playing and laughing and dancing and loving and fully living. and of course I'll still be practicing yoga and being an outspoken political activist in one way or another.
