Is beauty truth? (Or truth beauty?)

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 18, 2008:
for me, if it is beautiful, it must be true. but beauty is subjective. and what is beautiful to me, may not be beautiful to you. yes and of course so is truth, subjective. beauty and truth have at least that in common, subjectivity.
tonight, my beauty and truth are in a clear sky with an almost full moon causing the still snow covered mountains to seem to glow, listening to a cd that I bought in iceland some years ago== danish musicians (d.r. big band) accompanied by the haunting voice of a faroese siren (eivor palsdottir). my heart soared and ached, though I only understand a word or two of the lyrics. those lyrics, whatever they are saying, they must be true, because the beauty of their utterance makes me ache and the mountains and the moon and the stars and the space between were singing the same truth.

awesome
Great photo.
For some reason I love listening to music in languages I don't speak or understand…I think it reminds me a little of seeing operas where I knew just what was going on but understood not one word. I love how the emotion comes through without my intellectual clutter.
This is a great question, isn't it? And, you're right, both beauty and truth are subject to our own individual perspectives. Beauty shins through. Truth shines through. I think seeing past the superficial requires that our eyes are connected to our heart, rather than just our minds.
I love listening to other languages too and I love the picture you took like it is the language of snow right there. (we should all be fluent by now in the valley:-)
it's snowing again! I think I may have to learn to speak the language of snow. perhaps the white witch has come to western colorado and it will not be spring soon. who's been into the turkish delight?!
I will keep my heart and eyes connected as much as I can and I will listen to an opera in a language not my own and I will speak to the snow tomorrow. yes.
I'm go glad you all have been here visiting. you make me smile.
I keep coming back to this photo, trying to figure out what it reminds me of.
It is rather beautiful, the way snow often is….but it reminds me of something just out of reach of my memory. I thought insulation, when you tear it a certain way,but not exactly.Cotton candy when it's humid out side, not that either, but close.Dried potatoes, you know the ones you use to thicken soups,or use in cafeterias, nope.
So I'll just keep on coming back to this photo, commenting off and on until I find what it reminds me of ;-)….and the post,I'm english, but rarely speak it now, instead french has become a part of me,a part of everything around me. I'm learning arabic slowly, but I have mastered the naughty words, which i use with relish.
it reminds me of something too— but it's out of reach because —– snow. we have an abundance of snow. :-)
Giggle….yup lots of it here too, kind of,these big trucks come and cart it away so the only real impressive amounts are these huge mountains made by all the snow they took away.
my God yes, i think people from other places would not believe how high our snow mountains get!
I have snow envy.
I'm trying to think how to send you some snow Jeannie, but alas…. I'm not that powerful…. yet?! :-)
I'm still thinking,if you can call it that,it's 1:30 a.m.
Perhaps if i go to sleep i'll be awakened with what it is it reminds me of. Salt formations, nuh….i know it's snow but this picture…….
I think it might remind me of a magnified mineral, nah not that either, but maybe…
OMG OMG I figured it out,it reminds me of the ice build up in the freezer of a fridge I once owned
That's it,yayayayayay.
Hallelujah mommas gonna sleep tonight
p.s. thank you for letting me hang out on your blog.
that is so funny!! I love it. I can totally see that now. I have defrosted a coupla old fridges myself over the years.
Beauty is a leaf, truth is how it falls from the tree…or so I just commented on Jon's blog. Maybe they're both subjective states and words cannot suffice. I think I'll ask Zozo and Bosco (feline friends) - they'll probably know.
but of course they will. :-)
