What's the connection between midsummer and mystery?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 21, 2008:
for me summer means long sunsets and long sunrises and warmth and being outside at night. it means star filled skies. I've often thought of summer as magical, but not particularly mysterious. I love, love, love summertime in the mountains.
I can feel the magic in today. today I am officially a wedding photographer. I'm getting paid and everything. I've been practicing for this job for ages. there is not a cloud in the deep blue sky, the sun is warm, the mountains are dressed in deep green from all the moisture we've had this winter and spring. the rivers are running high, wild and boisterous. the bride and groom are madly in love with one another. her family is lilly white and his the gorgeous brown of latin america. their love is larger than the two of them, as their families come together in friendship and celebration today. I can't wait to see what photographs find their way into my lens and onto the media card.
I believe that the bride and groom will be blessed by the magic of the summer solstice and the mountains and the rivers and the sun and the stars. I believe that their vows of love are helping to heal the world and the world will thank them for it over the years.
Hurray for love!!! Hurray for summer!! Hurray for warmth and expansion and growth and change!! Hurray for today!!

oh yes and it means children playing in a fountain or a sprinkler or a lake or a stream. it means laughter. it means play!
glory!
have fun! I can't wait to see the photos!
I did have fun!!! I'm waiting to get the pictures onto my little laptop now. I'm getting a lot of opportunity to practice patience today. :-)
I'm there with ya on the summer things Dawn - 'specially the warm star filled nights…sigh… If your wedding photos are anything like your mountain photos the bride and groom will be well pleased. I shot a wedding once - and had a roll of film (remember that stuff?) lost in processing. What a nightmare. At least with a media card unlimited copies can be easily made.
Remember to practice safe photography - as well as patience…;-)
weddings are high pressure no? I loved the wedding. it was beautiful and what could be better than a celebration of love. I'm not sure I'm cut out for the wedding photographer gig though. I have no idea if I'll even commit to shooting another wedding. time will tell. :-) but I did have fun.
I hope the wedding went well. I'm sure your photos are glorious!
The admiration you have for the couple and their family and the season itself will shine through in the photographs, I'm sure. Nice shot of the bleeding hearts. Remember that children's game about “undressing the lady” you can play with bleeding hearts? My daughter also makes snap dragons “talk.” Happy summer!
thanks emma. and catherine – I don't know that bleeding heart game. I'm looking at the picture and imagining how it might go and smiling. tell me more about it. I'll have to find some snap dragons to snap somewhere this summer. :-)
I'm just about to post just one of the photos from the wedding. one which doesn't give away the identity of the guests, but gives me a memory of the day still. :-)
and I'm better late than never …
I think with your amazing “EYE” for details and beauty - you will be an incredible wedding photographer! I hope you make lottsa $$$!!!
Did you take the pic of the bleeding hearts? oh my!!! these are some of my fave flowers and I have them (as a tradition) always growing by my front door … I don't know why but I do.
I've been busy w/ some serious stuff … and haven't seen your latest blogs. I'm catching up tonight.
love you,
peri
hi Peri. I'm so glad to “see” you. :-)
yes, I took the bleeding hearts photo when I was practicing my wedding photographer chops. it's my favorite this summer, so far, I think.
I'll be catching up on your latest posts soon too. consider youself tagged for a reason, excuse and elegant solution post. :-) but take as long as you like to create it. it's a low pressure kinda tag.
I hope you are well. serious stuff can be so hard at the time and then so glad you went through and learned something later.
