Thank you very much for the link. I am watching it now and am very inspired. Blessings. sherri
Oh Hurray!! If you watch it then we can talk about it when you are done!!
Hi Dawn, I really enjoyed that speech of his. It was the first time I had ever watched him in living colour and I was moved by how joyful and pleasant a personality he has! It's very encouraging.
I'll tell you some of the things I liked. He is soooo grounded: he said he is lazy! He doesn't think mosquitoes can show affection!
I love how he said that war is outdated and that he can't stand formality as it is a burden [I so agree!].
I truly appreciate that he knows who he is: he says he is a simple Buddhist monk; he even dreams he is a simple Buddhist monk not the Dalai Lama…
I won't go too much into my views about how he spoke to the questions on capitalism sinice I have really strong feelings on that subject. But I appreciate how he fielded everything from the heart.
I added him straight off to my Heroes list :)
What did you you think?
I loved, loved, loved every minute of it.
I disagreed with the person who said that aspenites are cantankerous and argumentative – I think that like most criticism it says more about the person doing the critiquing than it does about “aspenites” in general. I know too many wonderful, wonderful people here to agree with that person's assessment, but I LOVED how he said “that's your responisiblity” in answer to her question.
I absolutely rejoiced at the notion that PEACE comes from inner peace and that we all need to do some inner disarmament. I loved the reminder that we are all one gorgeous complex organism called planet Earth. I loved the reminder that the destruction of our neighbor is the destruction of ourself.
This morning I read in the Denver Post that the BLM is considering selling wild horses for slaughter because their are too many of them. that made me sad and angry. we don't sell humans for slaughter because there are too many of us and there are exponential numbers more of us than there are of wild horses.
it seems to me that the destruction of any number of wild horses, even one, is a dimishment of this wonderful organism called earth.
I decided to write a letter to the editor of the post in response to that story, but I'm not sure how to begin, but I'm going to do it anyway.
Yes, I laughed out loud when he said that. I often think that people try to get away from taking the simplest responsibiilty for improving their lives and always try to make it someone else's problem. Yeh! that he told her, 'I'm leaving tonight'. hahha
What came out, though, is the continued hold on capitalism that America has. It is why so much of his concepts are 'foreign' still. You can't be attached to competitive behaviours and still find unity; it's as simple as that. You can't be trying to acquire wealth and to hold on to physical assets while ignoring the absolute poverty in your home ground and recognise peace. I truly hope these messages will sink in and fairly soon.
In the meantime, note his continued peace. And of course his happiness. This is encouragement enough for me :)
BTW, the idea that there are 'too many' or 'too little' of anything is pretty sick… What an ego-ridden judgment! I'm sure no creative thought went into where they may donate those animals to help children in education or something of the sort, where animals are proven to be of help. Perhaps you could research something like that before you send off your correspondence.
I hope things will work out all right.
Best regards to you. Blessings. sherri
Oh no … I was doing something last night that could have waited, or maybe been re-directed to include the Dali Lama's speech. I missed it. Do you know it it was recorded for playback? I'd love to hear it - and see it, especially reading your's and sherri's comments on it.
Sometimes I'm just way too busy.
thanks….
Yes, the link above will take you there. It's very enjoyable. You'll like it.

yes. you can click on that aspen institute link and still see the recorded talk. I also think you'll like it.
I'm watching now - I'll let ya know what I think, although I'd say I was predisposed to love whatever it is the DL has to say.
Rasa, I went to a talk involving Amory Lovins a couple weeks ago. I love the Rocky Mtn Institute too. I'm so glad you stopped in here. :-)
Albert– me too. I'm biased too. :-)
I loved it Dawn. Thanks so much for the heads-up.
yay! you are absolutely welcome.
=) That was very good!
