This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 31, 2008:
I just got home from a Synergy workshop. It was taught by a fellow Bikram yoga teacher who is opening a yoga studio in Lima, Peru. He created Synergy, a fun blend of yoga asanas, Thai massage and flying fun. He also teaches Capoeira to kids in the shantytowns in Lima.
I was asked to come and take photographs at the workshop by a friend who is also a Bikram yoga teacher, massage therapist and now a Synergy teacher. It worked out great because I really didn't have the dollars to spend to pay for the workshop which I was still hoping to be able to attend. It was great too because making the photos didn't seem like work, it seemed like wonderful play.
What a delightful gift to be given and to allow myself.
That's me, flying upside down and backwards!! Super fun. I can't wait to show Adam all the fun stuff I learned while he was at work including some of the Thai massage techniques. I bet he's gonna like it. :-)

I've been fantasizing about handstands for weeks, without the courage to just do them and today I did some- with a little help from a friend. it was awesome!!!!

Yesterday was my frst new teaching lesson for the Tae Kwondo 2008-2009
cycle. We were 19 with about 6-7 newcomers.
Entering my third year of practice, I gained my green belt this summer
and hope to reach the black one before passing on the other side (foreseen date : 2024).

Firkon – I love disciplines that have a beginning but no end to where you can go with them.
maze – yes!! my muscles feel today as if it was hard work, but it didn't feel like it yesterday. I love work that feels like play. I love play that is good for the body, mind and soul!!

to an end, sometimes.

Dawn have i ever told you that i am energized by your blogs,ever shared with you the divine feeling I get when you share these glimpses into your life.
The way you see the world around you is inspiring.
The last photo made me think that are bodies are like our spirits sometimes the most natural forms are those we never thought or dared to do.
B.B.– you make me smile, smile, smile!! thank you! that last photo is wonderful isn't it? those two are some of my favorite yoga teachers. they own the studio where I teach and practice most. you might like to check out some more photos on the Synergy website too. Firkon – I'm sure that this incarnation will also come to an end one day, but I don't worry about that much, I just try to be as present in the here and now as possible. What I meant by disciplines that have a beginning but no end to where you can go with them is like yoga for instance – once you've accomplished an asana physically, there is still plenty of room for growth, you could try a more challenging version of the asana or deepen your mental or emotional understanding of it, strengthening your body / mind connection. I can't imagine that I'll ever master every single aspect of yoga, I'll always have something to look forward to and that's part of the magic for me. That's kind of what I meant by that.
and Sherri – it was SO MUCH fun!! I highly recommend it – you don't have to go to a class, but if you can that would be awesome. I was nervous, just a little, itty bit, before the workshop because I didn't know what to expect and I can be a little shy about touching other people and being touched, but it was fine. it was way better than fine. It was magic.
I told my husband that he absolutely HAS to come with me next time we get a chance to go to a synergy workshop because it would be even more fun if he was my partner for the stretching and massage and flying.
but if you can't go to a workshop, you can still do some gentle partner streches and massage if you have a friend who you trust and who trusts you. :-)

These are beautiful photos and like mimi, I remember doing this with my brothers when I was a kid! We had one “pose” where we tried to get as many bodies as possible in the air with my oldest brother as the “base” !!!! It was like flying and then when we all crashed and fell … lots of laughter!
I just signed up for a yoga class! My first in about 15 years! I'll work towards getting my flexibility and strength back and then … go looking for a Synergy class.

oh and peri – that is exactly what it’s called – flying!! it’s great fun. there was so much laughter at the workshop. grab a friend and try it!! you don’t have to wait until you think you are flexible enough. all levels can do this. it’s a strength training exercise in itself. my legs got a workout yesterday and I got bendier too. :-)

hi otter!! back bending is not my forte, but it's improving day by day, year by year. today I got up at 4am for an hour meditation, fed, watered and played with my dogs, got myself ready for work, headed to the bus at 6am, on the bus by 6:20, at work at 6:50, worked til 2:45 pm, training a new dispatcher and no breaks today, then on the bus by 3pm, home at 4pm, traffic was aweful, even for the busses. to the yoga studio at 4:10 pm greeting students who were waiting for me to open up the place. taught class from 4:30 to 6 pm. cleaned the mirrors, greeted students coming for the 6:30pm class, practiced from 6:30 to 8pm, helped clean and close the studio, home at 9pm, cleaned the kitchen, did laundry, boiled eggs for tomorrow, played with the dogs, cleaned a bathroom, took my vitamins and now I'm headed for bed. It's 10:30 pm. I have to get up at 4am again tomorrow if I want to meditate and I do want to. Jordan is living with his Dad and Adam is out of town for the week. Whew. and I'm not sleepy yet. maybe I can read for half an hour before sleep. more chest opening!!! tomorrow promises to be just like today, but with 2 hours just for me and the dogs and a walk.

Vivacious yes. Fully Alive … definitely!! Reaching growing expanding evolving… FER SURE. Wow Dawn! Quite an account of your ” day in the life.” I was thinking this morning, I am afraid to be vivacious. I've been “vivacious” for periods of time in my life, but when I'm in the middle of that buoyancy, there's always a part of me which is afraid. … perhaps, a fear based on losing control. Maybe a fear that it won't last. Either way, those feelings are rife with “attachment.” I just wanted to share that, because it's a good thing for me to reflect on, and thanks to your blog I am today. I think a lot of us “nail one of our feet to the floor” figuratively speaking, because the fear of taking flight (and potentially falling down) keeps us “grounded.” Hum? Interesting, huh?
yes. very, very interesting and I know just exactly what you are talking about because I am experiencing that right now. :-)
it's the third day for me just like the one I described above and things are going ok, but I'm glad that tomorrow is a day off and I'm hoping I don't just turn into a mushroom tomorrow because there is plenty I'd like to accomplish around the house. yoga first- at 7am. I know I'll get lots done if I just get up and go practice.
right now I've popped in to pick up my yoga stuff and check on my dogs, have a cup of tea and I'm out the door – 13 minutes from now I'll be pranayaming and 3 hours and 13 minutes from now I'll be at the beginning of the class I'm going to teach.
I fell asleep on the bus on the way home from my main work and missed my stop – had to cross the highway and luckily the bus back to my stop was just a few minutes wait. :-)
I like to think there is just a little magic in those ooops moments and when I have them I'm on hyper alert for the magic that I might've missed if I hadn't missed my stop.
